History
With over 2000 years of history, Augsburg is one of the oldest cities in Germany. The Augsburg High Peace Festival is a unique public holiday that is celebrated on August 8th and has a very special place in the city's history.

Intangible cultural heritage
The Augsburg High Peace Festival is celebrated annually on August 8 as a public holiday. In 2018, it was added to the national list of intangible cultural heritage. It had previously been recognized as Bavarian intangible cultural heritage. In 2019, the Peace Festival with its extensive program was awarded the Bavarian Homeland Prize.

The Peace Office
The Peace Office is an institution in Directorate 3 in the Mayor's Department of the City of Augsburg. It organizes events such as the cultural programme for the Augsburg High Peace Festival, lectures and conferences.
